4 Easy Ways to Eat Oatmeal So You Get All the Nutrients
In this post, we’ll go over some ways to prepare and eat oatmeal.
Oatmeal is a favorite for many households and there are good reasons.
They are healthy. And they provide the good carbohydrates your body needs each day.
Oatmeal is nutritious, rich in minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants. It is also an excellent source of fiber.
Besides, studies have shown that benefits of eating oatmeal to include:
- Lowering blood sugar
- Improving weight loss
- Improving heart health
- Boosting skin health
- Getting rid of constipation
So with all theses oatmeal benefits, what’s the best way to enjoy oatmeal?
How can you add it to your diet and daily routine so that you make sure you’re not missing out?
In this article, we will discuss my three favorite ways to eat oatmeal.
1. Cook with water
If you are using oldfashioned oatmeal, it’s really simple.
Add water to a saucepan and bring to boiling point. Reduce the heat a little bit and then add a cup of old fashioned oatmeal.
Let it simmer for about four to seven minutes while you occasionally stir it.
Once it’s done, allow it cool down and add your favorite milk. I prefer plant-based milk like soy milk or almond milk.
But that’s not all. Make it more exciting by adding your favorite berries or nut to it. Now, relax and enjoy it!
2. Add to smoothie
This is one of my favorite ways to eat oatmeal.
If you don’t have time to go through all the cooking process, add it to a smoothie.
It’s the easiest and reliable way to still get all your nutrients.
Take a scoop of oatmeal and add it to favorite smoothie mix, and then blend for two to three minutes.
Here’s what else I include in my smoothie mix:
- Half a cup of oatmeal
- 1 banana
- 3 tablespoons of flaxseed
- 2 tablespoons of peanut butter
- 1 cup of blueberries
- One cup of soy milk
- 1 scoop of whey protein
- Half a cup of water
I add all these into my Nutribullet and blend it for two to three minutes.
Especially after a workout, this smoothie is my go-to. This way I know I’m getting all the nutrients that’ll help me recover faster after workouts.
I find that it’s easier to track the calories in my calorie app, Lifesum.
3. Add it to pancakes
Sometimes pancakes can be plain and boring. But not when you add oats and oatmeal.
You can use oatmeal to add some firmness and fiber to the pancake.
Mix in oatmeal to your pancake recipe. Add some eggs or your favorite protein powder to make.
This filling oatmeal-infused pancake can help you stay full all morning and avoid unnecessary snacking.
4. Add to Meatloaf or Veggie Burgers
Gone are the days where burgers were only meat.
These days, it’s possible to enjoy a great burger without meat, and without the oft-unhealthy ingredients.
If you’re looking for a meat alternative to the traditional ground chicken, beef, or turkey, oatmeal can be an ideal choice.
Use oatmeal as the binder. You can blend the oatmeal to any consistency you want.
Then add eggs to as well. It holds together well and has all the nutrients you need as well.
